THE NEW EUROPEAN MACHINERY LEGISLATION – MR 2023/1230
 

On January 20, 2027, the Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC will be replaced by the new Regulation 2023/1230. 

At first glance, one might get the idea that not much has changed compared to the previous requirements. 

Upon closer examination, however, it becomes clear that this impression is misleading. The Machinery Regulation introduces a number of changes that are of considerable importance to manufacturers and other economic operators. 

These include, for example, new obligations for economic operators, as well as—for the first time—explicitly regulated requirements for handling substantial modifications to machinery and the procedures to be followed in doing so. In addition, the essential health and safety requirements in Annex III of the Regulation have been supplemented and amended in various places. 

At the same time, the Machinery Regulation can no longer be viewed in isolation: Depending on the product, the technology used, and the application, supplementary legislation may be relevant. 

Furthermore, the planned EU guidelines have yet to be released. For this reason, the online seminar will feature valuable guidance from Regulatory Affairs Specialist Michael Loerzer on the correct application of the new regulation.
